Premium Ajwa Dates from Madinah | Authentic Saudi Ajwa | Al Kareem Dates
2. Short Description
Grown exclusively in the blessed city of Madinah, Al Kareem's Ajwa dates are dark, soft, and mildly sweet with a distinctive raisin-like texture. Revered across the Muslim world and prized in premium food markets globally. Available in bulk export and retail packaging.
3. Long Description
There are dates, and then there are Ajwa dates. Of all the varieties cultivated across the Arabian Peninsula, none carry the historical significance, cultural reverence, or consistent global demand of the Ajwa. Grown only in Madinah Al-Munawwarah, Saudi Arabia — and nowhere else in the world — authentic Ajwa dates have been harvested from the same blessed land for over a thousand years.
Origin & Terroir
Al Kareem's Ajwa dates are cultivated on our family farms in Madinah, where the combination of arid desert climate, mineral-rich sandy soils, and long warm growing seasons creates ideal conditions for the Ajwa palm to produce fruit of exceptional quality. No other region on earth replicates these conditions — which is why genuine Madinah Ajwa commands a premium in every market it enters.
Appearance
Ajwa dates are oval in shape with a deep, almost black skin. At full maturity they present a rich, uniform dark brown to black colour with a slightly wrinkled surface. Our Premium Jumbo grade dates weigh approximately 13g each, with about 77 dates per kilogram — consistent, well-formed fruit that presents beautifully in retail and gift packaging.
Texture & Taste Profile
The texture is soft and fleshy — not overly moist, not dry. Bite into an Ajwa and you get a gentle chew, followed by a mild sweetness that is less intense than many other varieties. There is a subtle complexity to the flavour: a hint of dark fruit, a slight earthiness, and a lingering pleasant finish. Many describe the taste as similar to a soft raisin or dried fig. This understated sweetness makes Ajwa exceptionally popular with consumers who prefer a less sugary date experience.
Harvesting & Processing
Our Ajwa palms are harvested manually at the Tamer stage — the final, fully ripened stage of date maturity. Each cluster is carefully inspected in the field before being transported to our processing facility. There, the dates are cleaned, graded by size and weight using mechanical and manual processes, and packed under strict hygiene controls in line with BRC Global Standard for Food Safety (Issue 9) and ISO 22000:2018.
Quality Standards
Every batch of Ajwa dates we export is produced in compliance with GSO 1016:2015, GSO 2511:2016, and our full organic certification suite: USDA NOP, EU Organic, JAS (Japan), and Saudi Organic (KSA-Organic-001 via Kiwa BCS). We are also certified by Global GAP and are proud members of the Saudi Organic Farming Association (SOFA).
Nutritional Value
Ajwa dates are naturally rich in dietary fibre, which supports healthy digestion. They contain naturally occurring potassium, magnesium, iron, and a range of antioxidant compounds. Like all date varieties, they provide a natural source of energy from fruit sugars — glucose, fructose, and sucrose — without any added sweeteners or preservatives.
Daily Uses & Applications
Ajwa dates are consumed across a wide range of contexts. In Muslim households worldwide, they hold special significance during Ramadan and are traditionally consumed to break the fast. Beyond religious and cultural uses, Ajwa dates are served alongside Arabic coffee (qahwa) as a hospitality staple, packaged as premium gifts, incorporated into luxury confectionery, and sold through health food retailers as a natural snack.
Export & Wholesale Suitability
Ajwa dates are one of the most consistently demanded date varieties in global export markets — particularly in the UK, Europe, Southeast Asia, Australia, and across the GCC and wider Muslim world. Al Kareem supplies Ajwa in bulk cartons (12.5 kg), as well as in consumer retail formats (100g, 280g, 480g, 1kg) and bespoke gift packaging. Private label and OEM options are available for importers and distributors wishing to sell under their own brand.
If you are an importer, wholesaler, or retailer looking for a reliable, certified, and traceable source of authentic Madinah Ajwa dates — Al Kareem Dates is your partner.

Our processing and grading facility is certified to BRC Global Standard for Food Safety (Issue 9) and ISO 22000:2018, and our organic farming is independently verified by Kiwa BCS to USDA NOP, EU Organic, JAS, and Saudi Organic standards. 10. FAQ
Q: What makes Madinah Ajwa different from other Ajwa dates on the market? A: Authentic Ajwa dates can only be grown in Madinah Al-Munawwarah — the specific soil composition, climate, and water table of the region are unique. Dates labelled "Ajwa" that do not originate from Madinah are either a different variety or mislabelled. Al Kareem provides origin certification with every shipment.
Q: Are Al Kareem's Ajwa dates genuinely organic? A: Yes. Our Ajwa dates are certified organic by Kiwa BCS under USDA NOP, EU Organic, JAS, and Saudi Organic standards. Certification documentation is provided with every order. We also welcome farm visits from serious buyers.
Q: What is the texture of Ajwa dates — soft or dry? A: Ajwa dates at the Tamer stage are soft and fleshy, with a gently chewy texture similar to a soft raisin. They are not dry or hard. Moisture content ranges between 10–15%.
